front cover

The masthead of the magazine is called M which stands for Music, I wanted a very simple logo which is eye-catching but not to over the top, text is white and bold on a red background which makes it stands out more, this makes it effective and attracts audience well. Red has a lot of connotations, red could stand for danger, rebellion this is suitable for the genre of music which my magazine promotes (rock, alternative rock, indie rock). The text if the masthead covers only the top left corner of the page, this is because this is where readers start to read a page from, therefore the masthead will be the first thing they see, this is similar to other well known magazines such as NME and Q.  The font is adobe Hebrew which is a modern but also shows the magazine is aimed for older youth rather than a childish font which attracts children. The target audience for this magazine is ranged, there is not a particular gender for my magazine, I am aware that it will attract mostly a male audience as it is a rock magazine but as my main image is a girl this can also attract females to the magazine, the age for this magazine is 16+, however the audience for this particular magazine could be older because my magazine features Kasabian and Oasis which are both bands that formed over 10 years ago, this indicates a core older audience.
The image in this magazine is “Gabs” who is the “queen of rock”; the image is simple and minimalistic as it is just a mid-shot of her face, she is making a direct address to the audience looking at the camera making a tense formal connection with the audience. The image portrays a classic rock queen as she is wearing black; this goes with the magazine genre because as a rock magazine the colours are meant to be dark and mysterious.
